Frequently Asked Questions
How do I fit my headlining?
Need help fitting?
You can find our full fitting instructions here:
We also offer a mobile fitting service. Please contact us if you would like to arrange a fitting.
Can I register for extended warranty?
All Defender Headlinings products come with a standard 12-month manufacturer warranty. However, for those looking for ultimate peace of mind, we now offer the Defender Interior Shield Subscription.
Unlike a standard warranty, this is an "evergreen" protection plan that covers you for accidental damage, rips, stains, and scuffs for just £5/month. It effectively extends your protection indefinitely as long as your subscription is active.
Shipping & Transit Security
How much does shipping cost for Defender Headlinings orders?
We keep our shipping rates straightforward and transparent, especially considering the large, oversized nature of our GRP headlinings:
- Free Mainland UK Shipping: We offer Free Standard Shipping on all orders across the UK Mainland. The price you see at checkout is exactly what you pay—there are no hidden surcharges for oversized freight.
- Non-Mainland & Remote UK Areas: For deliveries to the Scottish Highlands, UK Islands (such as the Isle of Wight, Isle of Man, or Channel Islands), and Northern Ireland, additional carrier surcharges may apply due to specialist courier routing. These rates are calculated automatically at checkout based on your delivery postcode.
- International Shipping: If you are ordering from outside the United Kingdom, additional carrier surcharges may apply due to specialist courier routing. These rates are calculated automatically at checkout based on your delivery postcode/ zipcode.
How are such large, rigid items securely packaged and shipped to prevent transit damage?
Delivering a full-length, rigid GRP headlining in pristine condition requires industrial-grade logistics. Because we manufacture these premium components from scratch, we protect them with bespoke, heavy-duty packaging engineered specifically for their dimensions:
- Custom Double-Wall Heavy Duty Cartons: Every headlining is housed in an oversized, rigid corrugated container designed to resist punctures, bending, and structural impacts during transit.
- Internal Shock Absorption & Surface Protection: The upholstered face and raw GRP edges are wrapped in heavy-duty, anti-abrasive foam layers. We utilize custom internal bracing to suspend the board within the carton, preventing any shifting or edge-crush.
- Specialist Fragile Freight Couriers: We do not use standard parcel networks. All shipments are dispatched via specialist, large-format freight couriers who handle oversized premium automotive components with dedicated care.
- Fully Insured UK-Wide Delivery: Every single shipment is completely tracked and 100% insured. In the highly unlikely event of transit damage, we handle the claim entirely and ensure a replacement is prioritised.
Delivery Inspection Note: Due to the oversized nature of these items, we always advise checking the external packaging upon delivery before signing for the freight.
Manufacturing & Material Integrity
What materials are used to construct these headlinings, and how do they prevent sagging?
Unlike original equipment manufacturer (OEM) and other manufacturers pressed fibreboard backings—which break down, absorb moisture, and inevitably cause fabric delamination—our headlinings are engineered from premium, marine-grade GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic). We design and own all of our manufacturing moulds, producing each board entirely from scratch. Because GRP is completely impervious to moisture, condensation, and temperature fluctuations, it provides a rigid structural backbone that will never bow, rot, or degrade over the life of your vehicle.
How do you ensure the upholstery fabric remains bonded over time?
We utilise high-temperature automotive-grade scrim-backed materials, bonded to the cured GRP substrate using a proprietary industrial adhesive system rated to withstand internal cabin temperatures exceeding 120°C. This eliminates the standard failure point seen in cheaper trimming services where standard contact adhesive fails during high summer heat.
Vehicle Compatibility & Fitment Specialists
Will these headlinings fit across different Land Rover Defender generations (e.g., 200Tdi, 300Tdi, TD5, and 2.4/2.2 Puma)?
Yes. While the exterior roof line remains largely identical across classic model years, the interior trim clearances, wiring loom channels, and sun visor mounting footprints changed across different eras—particularly during the transition to the structural Puma dashboards. Our moulds account for these specific factory variations. When using our on-site Vehicle Selector, simply specify your wheelbase (90, 110, or 130), engine generation, and roof profile to ensure a flawless match for factory mounting points.
Do you offer variations for models with Alpine lights, sunroofs, or truck cab configurations?
Because we manufacture our own boards from scratch, our tooling includes dedicated variations for standard hardtops, station wagons with Alpine light cutouts, factory tilt-and-slide sunroofs, and utility truck cabs (coming soon). Each cut and contour is integrated directly during the moulding and trimming process to ensure clean, factory-precise edge finishes.
Installation, Tooling & Wiring Access
What tools are required for installation, and do I need to make permanent modifications?
No permanent modifications are required. Our headlinings are designed to utilise your vehicle’s factory trimming channels and mounting holes. You will need basic hand tools: a trim clip removal tool, a cross-head screwdriver for visors and grab handles, and a socket set for interior seatbelt anchors where applicable. We recommend replacing old plastic trim buttons with our heavy-duty trim clip kits for the cleanest installation.
How do I manage interior wiring looms or roof insulation when fitting the new GRP board?
Our GRP boards maintain structural rigidity while leaving optimized clearance behind the substrate for standard factory wiring looms and tambahan thermal/acoustic insulation layers (such as Dynamat or closed-cell foam). We recommend taping your wiring harness securely to the metal roof skin before lifting the GRP board into position to prevent pinching.
